Executive Coaching

Are You Unfulfilled With Your Career Or Struggling with your leadership role?

Despite being a successful, high-achieving professional, are you inexplicably dissatisfied with your life both in and/or outside of work? Do you struggle with Imposter Syndrome, perfectionism, or a lack of confidence that’s preventing you from leveling up?

Perhaps you’re having trouble navigating a high-pressure role, and it’s affecting your work-life balance, your relationships, or even your health.

Or maybe you’re considering executive coaching because you’re looking to improve your leadership, executive presence, or management skills.

People Seek Out Executing Coaching For Many Reasons

On the outside, you appear busy and accomplished with an active social life, but on the inside, you might feel empty or unfulfilled. You may lack relationships that are nourishing and enduring because your identity is tied to your professional role or status. The pursuit of perfection is so exhausting that it’s probably becoming untenable.

Though you’re adept at what you do, you may struggle to lead others or advance at work because of the complicated politics and bureaucracy of your organization. Or maybe you have to deal with toxic environments, bosses, or latent and implicit biases, but you’re reluctant to let go of the high income or resign yourself to this lot in life.

Whatever your situation, there is a way to find a greater sense of fulfillment, balance, and joy in your life. With my training as a psychotherapist and executive coach, I believe you can feel more valued and respected, less consumed by the need to be perfect, and more fulfilled both in and outside of work

Far Too Many People Sacrifice Their Well-Being For Success

We live in a world that ultimately elevates the importance of status, appearance, and income to the point that work (and its rewards) becomes an addiction. Plus, many people work in highly competitive environments that indirectly encourage them to sacrifice their well-being for the bottom line.

And although money and success can offer freedom, when people find out that it doesn’t always lead to happiness or the life they imagined, it can result in regret. What’s worse, the pressure to sustain in competitive markets combined with the fear of losing it all drive many professionals to cope with their stress in unhealthy ways.

Why Do So Many People Overwork Themselves?

Many high-achieving individuals experience Imposter Syndrome or harbor a deep sense of shame that drives them to succeed. Some folks only feel valued if they are pleasing people or visibly succeeding. Others pour themselves into work to please their families. And most of my gay clients feel they need to overcompensate, so they end up burning out or sacrificing important relationships.

Unfortunately, this culture is so common that most people can’t even recognize when they are in the thick of it themselves. They’re surrounded by peers with the same beliefs, burdens, and unproductive coping mechanisms—so it all becomes normalized.

But there is a way to rewrite those deeper narratives, let go of fear, and create real and lasting change. With executive coaching, you can improve your confidence, address the issues holding you back, and create a life/role that aligns with what makes you feel happy and engaged.

Executive Coaching Offers You Clarity, Solutions, And Support

Because one’s occupation and personal life are intrinsically linked, we can’t talk about one without discussing the other. For instance, someone might reach out for help navigating a career challenge only to find that it’s not their job that’s the problem. Rather, it’s depression, childhood trauma, or some other diagnostic concern.

So, as a psychodynamic therapist and executive leadership coach, my approach always straddles the line between career coaching and rooting out deeper issues. I think that’s one of the great benefits of working with me. I often have clients express that they never knew someone like me existed—someone with the skills and expertise to offer both professional and interpersonal support.

What Can You Expect in Coaching Sessions?

I provide a dual-pronged approach to coaching that bridges psychodynamic therapy and career counseling within a culturally humble and gay-affirmative framework.

That means using psychological insight and executive coaching strategies to help you find meaning, purpose, and balance both in and outside of work. To gather that insight, I’ll provide you with a career assessment as well as several other related evaluations that explore your personal experiences, family history, education level, personality traits, career values, cultural influences, and other factors.

Essentially, I want to look at all the variables in your life, including your thoughts and memories, how you self-identify, roles that were once fulfilling, and any hobbies that fell by the wayside. Then, we can start setting goals and taking concrete steps toward change.

What Are Some Of The Tools Used In Executive Leadership Coaching?

Because my approach to coaching covers so much area, I’ll provide a range of evaluations designed to help me understand you and your needs better.

  • The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator allows me to identify your personality type

  • The Strong Interest And Skills Confidence Profile assesses your level of confidence as well as your personal and professional areas of interest

  • The FIRO-B looks at your leadership style, work-style preferences, your environmental and interpersonal needs, as well as your negotiation style

  • The Work Engagement Profile identifies your inherent needs and desires as well as that which gives you a sense of purpose, meaning, progress, and competence in what you do

  • The Career Values Assessment enables you to assess your personal experiences—and from that analysis, define, rank, and prioritize work values

I also integrate aspects of Psychodynamic and Schema-Focused Therapy into sessions to help clients navigate deeper issues that transcend coaching.

These coaching strategies and assessments can help you develop stronger management and executive leadership skills. You can negotiate conflict with co-workers effectively and gain a greater sense of confidence and autonomy. We can work on cultivating empathy and integrating psychological insight into work dynamics and interpersonal dilemmas.

You’ll learn about relational networking, how to find/become a mentor, and how to build and sustain a professional network. What’s more, you’ll be gaining clarity in your professional life while finding balance at home and in your relationships. And most importantly, you can finally start valuing your happiness and well-being over your accomplishments.

Perhaps You’re Considering Executive Coaching But Still Have Questions…

How does leadership coaching work?

After exploring your specific needs and situation, I’ll likely start with a comprehensive look at your career history and professional life. We’ll also rule out any mental health issues that may be complicating matters.

Then, using a series of assessments, we’ll identify things like your personality type, interests, career values, leadership style, environmental needs, how you work best, and what gives you a sense of purpose and progress. From there, we start planning steps for the future.

I hear a lot about Imposter Syndrome and work-life balance; can you help with that?

The perfectionism and deficit mindset inherent in burnout and imposter syndrome can affect every facet of your life. Relationships suffer, depression and anxiety can set in, and addictions or unhealthy coping styles form. With my approach to executive coaching, we can examine and address those important interpersonal challenges as needed rather than focusing solely on work and achievements.

Who is executive leadership coaching best suited for?

C-suite folks (CEOs, CFOs, Leaders, and others) commonly have executive coaches to help them optimize their efforts at work. Often, executive coaches are seasoned professionals in their respective fields and guide and support clients in their careers, frequently following a coaching model of some sort.

In contrast, I am trained as a psychotherapist and career counselor, and I approach the world of work stress and coaching through the lens of psychology. It is an integration of therapeutic insight and strategic planning that’s perfect for anyone who’s ready to create real change and discover their best selves.
